Outreach and Collaborations

Al Fatih Academy students and staff regularly participate in programs in local, national, and international settings that help bring understanding about Muslim culture and practice.

Hutchinson Elementary School

Kindergarten classes December 21, 2006 3rd and 4th Graders were invited to present to 90 kindergarteners what Hajj, Eid and being Muslim means. (photos from event)

 
AFA is a member of this important organization that serves as a resource bank for schools whose mission is grounded in spiritual and moral education. Staff members are involved in the Pathmaps Project, a national, interfaith collaboration to create a manual and teaching resources that nurture spiritual development in schools.

AFA staff contributed as writers to the book  “Nurturing Child and Adolescent Spirituality: Perspectives from the World's Religious Traditions” and participated in various workshops for the Developmental Assets program.

Staff contributes to the Children’s Interfaith Sabbath Manual, a resource with teaching tools and lessons relating to the advocacy for all children in America.

staff members presented papers about integrating Islamic studies into the general curriculum and holistic teaching methods.

hosted a seminar on faith and social responsibility at Georgetown University. The seminar brought representatives from various faith traditions together to discuss and share best practices on faith based practical initiatives on employment, education and community regeneration. Al Fatih Academy staff were asked to participate and met with the Prince regarding how best to mentor and teach youth.

Islamic Schools League of America

Largest organization for supporting and providing resources for Islamic schools in the US. AFA staff members have participated in various forums co-sponsored by the League along with the ISNA Education Forum.

Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education (AGELE)

AFA staff participated in presentations about gender equity from the Muslim tradition.
