Creative Writing

Grades 3 - 5

This after school club is designed to give students the opportunity to think and write creatively – no deadlines or grades involved!  My goal is to encourage you to love writing and to guide you in the process. Writing is a great way to get feelings, thoughts, ideas, inspirations and much more out into the world.  Each class will consist of a quick warm up, a short lesson to focus on and then individual time.

Theatre Troupe

Grades 5 – 8

The AFA Theatre Troupe is an after school program tailored to develop students’ voice and movement techniques, beginner improvisational skills, participate in the audition and rehearsal process, and gain confidence through performance for audience.  The program will culminate with a one-act play that will be held at the end of the program.

Debate

Grades 6 – 8

Students will learn the skills of building sound and valid arguments, formulating stances to support or oppose a motion through logical reasoning, analytical and lateral thinking and structured delivery. Students will be familiarized with syllogisms, premises, conclusions and fallacies through the study of logical inductive and deductive, evidence-based reasoning. Students will build their confidence and enhance their public speaking skills. They will learn to think on their feet with impromptu topics and research skills through prepared topics. All in all debating is great!

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Muslim Youth Debate Tournament held every year in the DC metro area.  Exact date and location TBD. Visit http://www.mafiq.org/debate/
